Job Overview

This position is ideal for a passionate conservationist seeking to contribute to Zambia’s environmental sustainability. The Wildlife Conservation Research Officer will lead field studies, analyze ecological data, and develop strategies to mitigate human-wildlife conflict. The role requires collaboration with local stakeholders to promote conservation awareness and implement evidence-based solutions. Candidates will work in dynamic field conditions while maintaining office-based reporting and planning responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys to monitor wildlife populations and habitat health
  • Collect and analyze ecological data using GIS and statistical tools
  • Develop and implement community-based conservation education programs

  • Coordinate with local authorities to enforce anti-poaching initiatives
  • Manage research equipment and field logistics in remote locations

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and cross-cultural collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently in challenging field environments
  • Experience with camera trapping and wildlife tracking techniques
  • Fluency in English and basic knowledge of local languages (e.g., Lozi)

Education

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree is preferred but not mandatory.

Experience

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in wildlife conservation, ecological research, or environmental project management. Prior fieldwork in African ecosystems is advantageous.

Salary

250,000 – 400,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
