Job Overview
The Artificial Intelligence Ethics Officer will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of ethical frameworks for AI products and services deployed by Google Zambia. This role ensures that AI systems are transparent, fair, and aligned with both international standards and local regulatory requirements. The officer will collaborate with product teams, legal counsel, and external stakeholders to embed ethical considerations throughout the AI lifecycle, from data collection to model deployment. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain an AI ethics policy that reflects global best practices and Zambian legal frameworks.
- Conduct risk assessments for AI models, identifying potential bias, privacy concerns, and societal impact.
- Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to integrate ethical guidelines into design and development processes.
- Lead internal training sessions on AI ethics, responsible AI, and data governance for cross‑functional teams.
- Engage with regulators, NGOs, and academic institutions to stay abreast of emerging ethical standards and contribute to policy discussions.
- Prepare comprehensive reports for senior leadership and external auditors on compliance with ethical standards.
- Monitor AI deployments post‑launch, ensuring continuous compliance and addressing any emerging ethical issues.
Required Skills
- Deep understanding of AI/ML technologies, data pipelines, and model evaluation techniques.
- Strong knowledge of ethical frameworks such as IEEE Ethically Aligned Design, EU AI Act, and local data protection laws.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities to assess complex ethical dilemmas.
- Proven experience in stakeholder engagement and cross‑functional collaboration.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non‑technical audiences.
- Project management expertise, including the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives.
Education
A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Ethics, Law, Philosophy, or a related discipline is required. Candidates with additional certifications in AI governance, data privacy (e.g., CIPP/E), or responsible AI are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of five years of professional experience in AI ethics, data governance, compliance, or a related field. Experience within a multinational technology company or a regulatory body is preferred.
Salary
The role offers a competitive salary range of SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and equity participation may be considered.
