Job Overview
The Head of Cloud Infrastructure Operations will lead the design, deployment, and management of IBM’s cloud platforms serving clients across Zambia and the broader Southern African region. Reporting to the Regional Cloud Services Director, you will be responsible for ensuring high availability, security, and performance of cloud services while aligning operational strategies with business objectives. This role demands a visionary leader who can translate technical complexity into actionable plans, foster cross‑functional collaboration, and drive continuous improvement across all cloud operations.
As a key member of the Cloud Services team, you will work closely with solution architects, security specialists, and client engagement managers to deliver end‑to‑end cloud solutions that meet stringent Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end‑to‑end operation of IBM’s private and hybrid cloud environments, ensuring 99.9% uptime and compliance with industry standards.
- Develop and enforce cloud governance policies, security frameworks, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Collaborate with architecture teams to design scalable, cost‑effective cloud solutions that align with client requirements.
- Manage a multidisciplinary team of cloud engineers, system administrators, and support staff, fostering a culture of accountability and innovation.
- Monitor performance metrics, conduct root‑cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to optimize service delivery.
- Oversee capacity planning, resource allocation, and budgeting for cloud infrastructure projects.
- Act as the primary escalation point for critical incidents, coordinating rapid response and communication with stakeholders.
- Drive automation initiatives using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation.
- Maintain up‑to‑date documentation, operational runbooks, and compliance reports.
- Represent IBM Zambia at industry conferences, webinars, and client workshops to showcase cloud capabilities.
Required Skills
- Deep expertise in cloud platforms (IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and virtualization technologies.
- Strong knowledge of networking, storage, and security concepts in cloud environments.
- Proficiency with automation and orchestration tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform).
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and micro‑services architectures.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Analytical mindset with a focus on data‑driven decision making.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as IBM Certified Cloud Solution Architect, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in cloud infrastructure management, with at least three (3) years in a senior leadership or managerial role. Proven track record of delivering large‑scale cloud projects in complex, regulated environments is essential.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 250,000 to SSP 350,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and stock options may be offered to exceptional candidates.
