Job Type: Full-Time
Job Purpose
To perform refractory, acid-proofing, and civil installation and maintenance work including bricklaying, casting, ramming, gunning, and related technical tasks within the smelter environment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Duties
Demolish and rebuild refractory-lined furnaces, vessels, ladles, and launders
Install and maintain acid-resistant linings
Construct and repair civil structures
Perform bricklaying, casting, ramming, and gunning tasks
Drill PSC tuyere holes and carry out related operations
Equipment & Operations
Operate tools such as mixers, gunning machines, cutting machines, and jackhammers
Maintain, inspect, and safely store tools and equipment
Perform basic rigging, slinging, and crane signaling
Operate hoists for lifting materials and equipment
Work Management
Supervise assistants assigned to tasks
Report progress and challenges to supervisors
Complete job cards accurately and on time
Minimize waste and contribute to cost efficiency
Health, Safety & Compliance
Adhere to company safety policies and legal regulations
Work safely in environments involving heat, dust, noise, and molten metal
Follow procedures for working at heights and confined spaces
Qualifications
Grade 12 Certificate
Minimum 2-year refractory bricklaying apprenticeship
Trade certificate in Bricklaying from a recognized institution
All qualifications must be verified by Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA)
Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience as a refractory artisan in a smelter environment
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
Added Advantages
Experience repairing fiberglass vessels and ducting
Basic fitting skills (bolting, fixing, etc.)
Experience working with molten metal and acid plants
