Job Overview
This role is part of WWF Zambia’s initiative to integrate biodiversity conservation with community livelihoods in the Copperbelt region. The successful candidate will lead field-based projects that balance ecological preservation with socio-economic development, ensuring sustainable resource use and wildlife protection. The position requires collaboration with local communities, government agencies, and international partners to implement conservation strategies aligned with Zambia’s environmental policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement biodiversity monitoring programs for flora and fauna in Chililabombwe’s ecosystems.
- Facilitate community workshops on sustainable land-use practices and wildlife coexistence.
- Conduct field surveys to assess habitat health and identify conservation priorities.
- Develop partnerships with local leaders to promote eco-tourism and conservation-based livelihoods.
- Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders, including government bodies and funding agencies.
Required Skills
- Expertise in biodiversity data collection and analysis using GIS or remote sensing tools.
- Proven experience in community engagement and conflict resolution in conservation contexts.
- Strong project management skills with a track record of delivering conservation initiatives.
- Fluency in both English and local languages (e.g., Bemba, Nyanja) is preferred.
- Ability to work in remote field conditions with limited infrastructure.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualification in Conservation Biology or Community Development is an asset.
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in biodiversity conservation, preferably in Zambia or neighboring countries.
- Previous work with community-based natural resource management (CBNRM) programs.
Salary
SSP 200,000 – 300,000 per annum, depending on experience.
