Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Industrial Safety and Environmental Officer to join our EHS team in Ndola. In this critical role, you will oversee, implement, and monitor occupational health, safety, and environmental management systems across our manufacturing operations. This position is vital to ensuring our production processes comply with local Zambian environmental laws and international safety standards. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement EHS policies in alignment with corporate and regulatory standards.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and hazard identifications across production lines.
- Investigate workplace incidents and near-misses, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Monitor environmental metrics, including water usage, energy, and waste-to-landfill targets.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies like the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA).
- Coordinate safety induction and training programs for employees and contractors.
Required Skills
- In-depth knowledge of Zambian environmental and safety legislation.
- Strong analytical skills for risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication skills to engage with plant workers and management.
- Proficiency in EHS data management software and MS Office.
- Ability to lead emergency response planning and execute safety drills.
- Focus on continuous improvement and sustainable manufacturing practices.
Education
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or Engineering from a recognized institution. Professional certifications like NEBOSH are highly advantageous.
Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in an EHS role within a heavy manufacturing or food and beverage production environment is required. Proven experience in managing regulatory compliance audits is essential.
