Job Overview
The Digital Payments Product Manager will lead the end‑to‑end lifecycle of Absa’s digital payments products, including mobile wallets, online payment gateways, and QR‑code solutions. Reporting to the Head of Digital Banking, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams—technology, risk, compliance, marketing, and operations—to design, launch, and optimize innovative payment solutions that cater to both retail and corporate customers. This role is central to Absa’s mission of delivering secure, fast, and user‑friendly payment experiences, driving adoption, and generating revenue growth. Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the product roadmap for digital payments, aligning with business objectives and market trends.
- Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and customer interviews to identify unmet needs and growth opportunities.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to translate product requirements into technical specifications and user stories.
- Work closely with risk and compliance departments to ensure all payment solutions meet local and international regulatory standards.
- Lead product launch initiatives, including go‑to‑market strategies, pricing models, and promotional campaigns.
- Monitor product performance metrics, analyze data, and iterate on features to improve adoption, transaction volume, and customer satisfaction.
- Manage relationships with external partners such as fintech startups, payment processors, and mobile network operators.
- Prepare business cases, financial models, and ROI analyses for new product proposals.
- Provide regular updates to senior leadership and stakeholders on product progress and key milestones.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of digital payments ecosystems, including mobile wallets, NFC, QR codes, and API integrations.
- Proven product management experience in fintech or banking, preferably with a focus on payments.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make data‑driven decisions.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks governing payments in Zambia and the broader SADC region.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Agile methodology experience and familiarity with tools such as JIRA or Trello.
- Strategic thinking combined with hands‑on execution capability.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline is required. A master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., Certified Scrum Product Owner, PMP) are advantageous.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of product management experience in digital payments or fintech, with a track record of successfully launching and scaling payment products. Experience within the Zambian banking sector or broader African market is highly preferred.
Salary
The role offers a competitive salary ranging from SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and profit‑sharing schemes are also part of the compensation package.
