Job Overview
The Senior Blockchain Solutions Architect will lead the design, development, and implementation of cutting‑edge blockchain platforms that enhance Mastercard’s payment infrastructure and enable new digital financial products. Reporting to the Head of Innovation, you will work closely with cross‑functional teams—including product management, engineering, security, and compliance—to translate business requirements into scalable, secure, and high‑performance blockchain solutions. This role is pivotal in positioning Mastercard Zambia as a pioneer in decentralized finance (DeFi) and tokenized payment services within the region.

Key Responsibilities
- Architect end‑to‑end blockchain solutions that integrate with Mastercard’s existing payment gateways and APIs.
- Lead proof‑of‑concept (PoC) projects for tokenization, smart contracts, and decentralized identity management.
- Collaborate with product owners to define technical specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Ensure compliance with local regulatory frameworks, data protection standards, and Mastercard’s security policies.
- Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance on best practices for distributed ledger technologies.
- Evaluate emerging blockchain platforms (e.g., Hyperledger Fabric, Corda, Ethereum) and recommend optimal technology stacks.
- Develop performance benchmarks, monitoring tools, and scalability strategies to support high‑volume transaction processing.
- Participate in industry forums, conferences, and standards bodies to keep Mastercard at the forefront of blockchain innovation.
Required Skills
- Deep expertise in blockchain protocols, consensus mechanisms, and smart contract development.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Solidity, Go, Rust, or JavaScript.
- Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong understanding of cryptographic principles, zero‑knowledge proofs, and secure key management.
- Ability to design RESTful APIs and integrate blockchain solutions with legacy banking systems.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills, with a focus on performance optimization and fault tolerance.
- Effective communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in blockchain development (e.g., Certified Blockchain Professional, Hyperledger Fabric Administrator) are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of five years of professional experience in software engineering, with at least three years dedicated to blockchain architecture, development, or research. Prior experience in the financial services sector, especially within payments or digital banking, will be considered a strong advantage.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience, expertise, and the strategic impact of the role. In addition to the base salary, Mastercard offers performance‑based bonuses, stock options, and a comprehensive benefits suite.
