Job Overview
The Construction Project Controls Engineer will join the Project Management Office (PMO) to lead cost, schedule, and performance monitoring for large‑scale construction initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Project Controls Manager, the role ensures that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 or MS Project, integrating all construction activities, milestones, and critical paths.
- Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow forecasts, monitoring variances and recommending corrective actions.
- Implement earned value management (EVM) techniques to assess project performance and forecast future outcomes.
- Coordinate with site engineers, procurement, and finance teams to ensure accurate data capture and reporting.
- Generate weekly and monthly performance reports for senior management, highlighting risks, issues, and mitigation strategies.
- Support contract administration by reviewing change orders, progress claims, and ensuring compliance with contractual terms.
- Facilitate risk workshops and maintain a risk register, providing quantitative analysis of potential impacts.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, optimizing project control processes and tools.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in project scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project) and cost control tools.
- Strong analytical abilities with a solid grasp of earned value management principles.
- Excellent communication skills for interfacing with multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of Zambian construction regulations, standards, and procurement practices.
- Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a closely related field is required. Professional certifications such as PMP, PMI‑ACP, or a recognized Project Controls qualification are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Applicants must have 5‑7 years of hands‑on experience in construction project controls, preferably within large infrastructure or industrial projects. Experience in the cement, mining, or heavy‑civil sectors is advantageous, as is prior exposure to multinational project environments.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based incentives, health insurance, and a pension scheme aligned with Zambian labor regulations.
