Job Overview

The Agricultural Technology Extension Officer will serve as the critical link between John Deere’s advanced farming technologies and the diverse farming communities throughout the Southern Province. This role involves delivering on‑ground training, conducting field demonstrations, and providing technical advisory services that enable smallholder and commercial growers to adopt precision agriculture practices. By promoting data‑driven decision making, the officer will help increase yields, reduce input costs, and support sustainable land management. The position reports to the Regional Extension Manager and works closely with product specialists, agronomists, and local partners to ensure seamless implementation of technology solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct on‑site demonstrations of John Deere equipment, including tractors, harvesters, and precision farming tools, to showcase benefits to farmers.
• Develop and deliver tailored training programs on GPS guidance, variable rate technology, and data analytics for crop management.
• Assess farmer needs through field visits, surveys, and stakeholder meetings, and recommend appropriate technology solutions.
• Collaborate with local agricultural extension services, NGOs, and research institutions to align initiatives with national agricultural policies.
• Collect and analyze performance data from pilot projects, preparing reports that highlight productivity gains and ROI for clients.
• Provide post‑sale technical support, troubleshooting equipment issues, and coordinating service requests with the after‑sales team.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of emerging agricultural technologies, market trends, and regulatory requirements in Zambia.
• Represent John Deere at regional agricultural fairs, conferences, and community events to strengthen brand presence.

Required Skills

• Strong understanding of modern farming practices, precision agriculture, and equipment operation.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of translating technical concepts for diverse audiences.
• Proficiency in using GPS, GIS, and farm management software.
• Ability to build relationships with farmers, cooperatives, and government officials.
• Problem‑solving mindset with a focus on delivering practical solutions.
• Organizational skills to manage multiple field projects and training schedules.
• Fluency in English; proficiency in local languages such as Bemba or Nyanja is an advantage.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications in precision agriculture or farm management are desirable but not mandatory.

Experience

Minimum of 3 years of experience in agricultural extension, farm advisory services, or a similar role within the agribusiness sector. Experience with modern farm equipment and digital agriculture platforms is highly valued.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 250,000 to SSP 400,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based incentives and allowances for travel and field activities.
