Job Overview

The Chief Data Privacy Officer (CDPO) will spearhead Zanaco Bank’s data privacy program, ensuring that all personal and sensitive information is collected, processed, stored, and shared in strict accordance with the Zambia Data Protection Act, GDPR, and other relevant international regulations. Reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer, the CDPO will develop and implement comprehensive privacy policies, conduct privacy impact assessments, and lead incident response activities related to data breaches. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and continuously improve Zanaco’s data privacy framework, policies, and procedures.
• Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) for new products, services, and technology implementations.
• Lead the response to data breach incidents, including investigation, remediation, and reporting to regulators.
• Monitor and interpret changes in local and international privacy legislation, advising senior management on implications.
• Collaborate with IT, Legal, Risk, and Business Units to embed privacy controls into system design and business processes.
• Provide privacy training and awareness programs for employees at all levels.
• Oversee the management of data subject access requests (DSARs) and ensure timely, compliant responses.
• Maintain records of processing activities (ROPA) and ensure documentation meets audit standards.
• Represent Zanaco in regulatory examinations, industry conferences, and privacy working groups.
• Drive a culture of data ethics and responsible data use across the organization.

Required Skills

• Extensive knowledge of the Zambia Data Protection Act, GDPR, CCPA, and other global privacy regulations.
• Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise‑wide privacy programs in the banking or financial services sector.
• Strong analytical and risk assessment capabilities, with the ability to translate legal requirements into technical controls.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing senior leadership.
• Certification such as CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM, or equivalent is highly desirable.
• Understanding of information security standards (ISO 27001, NIST) and their intersection with privacy.
• Ability to manage cross‑functional teams and lead complex projects under tight deadlines.

Education

A Master’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Additional certifications in privacy or information security will be considered an advantage.

Experience

Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in data privacy, compliance, or information security, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within a regulated financial institution.

Salary
