Job Overview

This role focuses on documenting and digitally archiving Zambia’s cultural heritage, with a specific emphasis on sites in the Mongu region. The ideal candidate will leverage advanced digital tools to create high-resolution records of heritage assets, collaborate with local communities, and contribute to global heritage databases. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys and document cultural heritage sites using 3D scanning, photogrammetry, and GIS mapping.
  • Create and maintain digital archives of heritage assets, including metadata, historical context, and conservation status.
  • Collaborate with local communities to record oral histories, traditional practices, and indigenous knowledge systems.
  • Develop reports and presentations for stakeholders, including government bodies and international organizations.
  • Participate in heritage conservation projects, providing technical expertise on documentation standards.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in digital archiving software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, AutoCAD).
  • Experience with GIS and remote sensing technologies.
  • Strong understanding of cultural heritage preservation principles.
  • Excellent communication and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in remote field conditions with limited infrastructure.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, History, Digital Archiving, or related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Cultural Heritage Management is an advantage.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in cultural heritage documentation or digital archiving.
  • Proven track record in managing heritage projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Salary

250,000 – 400,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
