Job Overview

As an Energy Storage Systems Engineer, you will design, implement, and maintain cutting-edge energy storage solutions to support Zambia’s transition to renewable energy. This role is critical for advancing grid stability, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and enabling decentralized energy systems across Zambia. The position is based in Nkana, a hub for industrial and mining activities in the Copperbelt region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize energy storage systems (ESS) for industrial, commercial, and residential applications.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and technical assessments for energy storage projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate ESS with solar, wind, and grid infrastructure.
  • Monitor system performance and implement improvements for efficiency and reliability.
  • Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and maintenance phases.
  • Ensure compliance with national and international energy storage standards.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in energy storage technologies (lithium-ion, flow batteries, or hybrid systems).
  • Proficiency in energy modeling software (e.g., HOMER, MATLAB/Simulink).
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems and grid integration principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple projects.
  • Fluency in English and knowledge of Zambian energy regulations.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Systems, or related field.
  • Master’s Degree preferred but not mandatory.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in energy storage system design or implementation.
  • Experience in Zambia’s energy sector or similar African markets is an advantage.

Salary

1,200,000 – 1,800,000 SSP per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
