Job Overview

The Industrial Robotics Engineer will design, program, and integrate robotic systems for ABB’s manufacturing clients in Zambia and the Southern African region. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop robotic cell layouts, selecting appropriate hardware and software components.
• Program industrial robots using RAPID, KRL, or equivalent languages, ensuring optimal motion planning and cycle times.
• Integrate robotic systems with PLCs, SCADA, and MES platforms for real‑time monitoring.
• Conduct feasibility studies, cost‑benefit analyses, and risk assessments for automation projects.
• Provide on‑site installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting support.
• Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to create custom end‑effectors and tooling.
• Develop and maintain detailed documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and user manuals.
• Train client personnel on safe operation, maintenance, and programming of robotic equipment.
• Stay updated on emerging robotics technologies and propose innovative solutions.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in robot programming languages (RAPID, KRL, FANUC, ABB RobotStudio).
• Strong understanding of kinematics, dynamics, and control theory.
• Experience with PLC integration (Siemens, Allen‑Bradley, Schneider).
• Knowledge of safety standards (ISO 10218, IEC 61508) and risk assessment methods.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and analytical thinking.
• Effective communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration.
• Project management experience, including scheduling and budgeting.
• Ability to work in field environments, including remote mining sites.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in robotics, such as ABB Certified Robot Programmer or FANUC Certified Technician, are highly desirable.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience designing, programming, and deploying industrial robotic solutions in manufacturing or process industries.
