Job Overview
The IoT Solutions Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, developing and deploying end‑to‑end Internet of Things solutions for industrial, agricultural and municipal clients across Zambia. Reporting to the Head of Digital Solutions, you will work closely with cross‑functional teams to translate customer requirements into scalable, secure and data‑driven architectures. Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement IoT architectures, including sensor networks, edge computing devices and cloud platforms, tailored to client needs.
- Collaborate with sales, project management and software development teams to define solution scope, timelines and deliverables.
- Develop firmware, APIs and integration middleware to ensure seamless data flow between devices and enterprise systems.
- Conduct field trials, system testing and validation to guarantee reliability, security and performance in diverse Zambian environments.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and local partners.
- Document solution designs, technical specifications and implementation guides in line with Siemens standards.
- Stay abreast of emerging IoT trends, standards and regulatory requirements in Zambia and the broader Southern African region.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in embedded systems programming (C/C++, Python, JavaScript) and hardware prototyping.
- Hands‑on experience with IoT platforms such as Siemens MindSphere, Azure IoT, AWS IoT or similar.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols (MQTT, CoAP, LoRaWAN, NB‑IoT) and security best practices.
- Ability to design scalable cloud architectures using microservices, containers and serverless technologies.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills, with a focus on delivering practical, cost‑effective solutions.
- Effective communication skills for client interaction and cross‑team collaboration.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in IoT, cloud platforms or cybersecurity are highly desirable and will be considered an asset during the selection process.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five years of professional experience delivering IoT projects in industrial, agricultural or municipal settings. Demonstrated success in managing full project lifecycles—from concept and design through deployment and post‑implementation support—is essential. Experience working in Zambia or other emerging markets is advantageous, as is familiarity with local regulatory frameworks governing data privacy and wireless communications.
Salary
The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 120,000 to SSP 180,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based incentives and annual bonuses are part of the total compensation package.
