Job Overview

This role is part of WorldFish Zambia’s mission to expand sustainable aquaculture initiatives across the Copperbelt region. The Aquaculture Development Officer will lead community-based projects to promote fish farming technologies, conduct research on native aquatic species, and provide technical training to smallholder farmers. The position requires a hands-on approach to developing scalable aquaculture models that enhance food security while preserving Zambia’s freshwater ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement aquaculture development projects in collaboration with local stakeholders.
  • Conduct field research on fish breeding, feed optimization, and disease management.
  • Provide technical training to farmers on sustainable aquaculture practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate project impact on food security and environmental sustainability.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for donors, partners, and government agencies.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in aquaculture project management.
  • Strong knowledge of freshwater fish species and farming techniques.
  • Excellent communication and community engagement skills.
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis tools.
  • Ability to work in remote rural environments.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aquaculture, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred but not required.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in aquaculture development or agricultural extension.
  • Previous work in Zambia or neighboring African countries is an advantage.

Salary

1,500,000 – 2,500,000 ZMW/month, depending on experience.
