Job Overview
The Credit Risk Analyst will be responsible for assessing the creditworthiness of corporate and individual loan applicants, monitoring existing credit portfolios, and providing actionable insights to senior management. This role is central to maintaining the bank’s asset quality and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The analyst will work closely with relationship managers, underwriting teams, and the broader risk department to develop risk‑adjusted pricing models, conduct stress testing, and support the implementation of risk mitigation strategies. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough credit assessments for loan proposals, including financial statement analysis, cash flow modeling, and industry risk evaluation.
- Prepare detailed credit memorandums and present findings to the Credit Committee for approval.
- Monitor and review the performance of existing credit exposures, identifying early warning signs and recommending corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain credit risk rating models, ensuring they reflect current market conditions and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with relationship managers to structure loan terms that balance client needs with the bank’s risk appetite.
- Perform periodic stress testing and scenario analysis to gauge portfolio resilience under adverse economic conditions.
- Assist in the preparation of regulatory reports and internal risk dashboards.
- Stay updated on macro‑economic trends, sectoral developments, and changes in Zambian banking regulations that may impact credit risk.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and quantitative abilities with proficiency in Excel, VBA, and statistical software (e.g., SAS, R, or Python).
- In‑depth knowledge of credit risk assessment methodologies and Basel III/IV guidelines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and presenting to senior stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross‑functional team in a fast‑paced environment.
- High attention to detail and strong problem‑solving mindset.
- Familiarity with Zambian banking products and regulatory environment.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CFA, FRM, or CPA are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in credit risk analysis, underwriting, or a related function within a reputable bank or financial institution. Experience in the Zambian market or with African emerging economies is preferred.
Salary
The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and other incentives are also part of the total remuneration package.
