Job Overview

The Director of E-Learning will lead the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the university’s online and blended learning initiatives. Reporting to the Vice‑Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the role will oversee a multidisciplinary team of instructional designers, multimedia developers, LMS administrators, and support staff. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty, department heads, and external partners to create engaging, accessible, and standards‑compliant digital courses that align with UNZA’s academic goals and accreditation requirements. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive e‑learning strategy that supports UNZA’s academic mission and growth targets.
• Lead the design and production of high‑quality online courses, modules, and micro‑learning assets using instructional design best practices.
• Manage the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring optimal performance, user support, and data analytics for continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with faculty to convert traditional curricula into engaging digital formats, providing training and mentorship on online teaching methodologies.
• Oversee quality assurance processes, ensuring all digital content meets accessibility standards (WCAG) and aligns with accreditation criteria.
• Establish partnerships with technology vendors, content providers, and international institutions to enhance the e‑learning ecosystem.
• Monitor and report on key performance indicators such as enrollment numbers, completion rates, and learner satisfaction.
• Develop and manage the e‑learning budget, allocating resources efficiently across projects.
• Lead a team of instructional designers, multimedia specialists, and support staff, fostering a culture of innovation and professional growth.

Required Skills

• Proven expertise in instructional design, adult learning theory, and curriculum development for online environments.
• Strong knowledge of LMS platforms (e.g., Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard) and e‑learning authoring tools (Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate).
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple initiatives simultaneously.
• Effective communication and stakeholder management, capable of influencing faculty and senior leadership.

Education

A Master’s degree in Education Technology, Instructional Design, Educational Psychology, or a closely related field is required. A Ph.D. or additional certifications (e.g., Certified Professional in Learning and Performance) are considered an advantage.

Experience

Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in e‑learning development, with at least three (3) years in a senior leadership or director‑level role within a university or comparable educational institution. Demonstrated success in scaling online programmes and managing large‑scale digital projects is essential.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 150,000 to 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with performance‑based incentives.
