Job Overview

The Environmental Compliance Officer will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of environmental policies and procedures to ensure the company meets all local, national, and international regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and update the company’s environmental management system (EMS) to align with Zambian environmental legislation and international best practices.
• Conduct regular environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for new projects, upgrades, and operational activities.
• Monitor emissions, effluents, waste streams, and biodiversity impacts, preparing detailed compliance reports for regulators.
• Lead internal audits and third‑party inspections, ensuring corrective actions are implemented promptly.
• Provide training and awareness programs for staff on environmental policies, procedures, and sustainable practices.
• Serve as the primary contact for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Zambia and other regulatory agencies.
• Coordinate community engagement initiatives, addressing environmental concerns and promoting corporate social responsibility.
• Maintain accurate records of permits, licenses, and compliance documentation.
• Support the integration of climate‑change mitigation strategies into operational planning.
• Prepare and present environmental performance metrics to senior management and the Board.

Required Skills

• In‑depth knowledge of Zambian environmental laws, ISO 14001 standards, and international environmental frameworks.
• Strong analytical and data‑interpretation abilities, with proficiency in environmental monitoring software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report preparation and stakeholder engagement.
• Project management expertise, capable of handling multiple compliance initiatives simultaneously.
• Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, operations, legal, and community relations teams.
• High ethical standards and a proactive approach to problem‑solving.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Ecology, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) or ISO 14001 Lead Auditor are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in environmental compliance, preferably within the power generation or broader energy sector. Experience conducting EIAs, managing permits, and leading audit processes is essential.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 150,000 to 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based incentives and annual bonuses are part of the remuneration package.
