Job Overview
The Environmental Compliance Officer will oversee adherence to national and international environmental regulations across Konkola’s mining operations. This role is critical in ensuring that all activities align with environmental standards, minimize ecological impact, and promote sustainable resource management. The position requires a proactive approach to compliance, risk mitigation, and collaboration with regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and enforce compliance with environmental laws, permits, and company policies.
- Conduct regular audits of mining operations to identify and address environmental risks.
- Prepare detailed reports on environmental performance and compliance for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement sustainable practices and reduce operational waste.
- Develop and maintain environmental management systems (EMS) aligned with ISO 14001 standards.
- Engage with government agencies and NGOs to ensure regulatory alignment and community environmental education.
Required Skills
- Thorough understanding of Zambian environmental regulations and international compliance frameworks.
- Strong analytical skills for assessing environmental impact assessments (EIAs).
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills for interfacing with regulatory bodies.
- Proficiency in using GIS and environmental monitoring software.
- Problem-solving abilities to address compliance challenges in mining operations.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline. A postgraduate qualification in Environmental Management is an added advantage.
Experience
3-5 years of experience in environmental compliance, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector. Experience with Zambian mining regulations and ISO 14001 certification processes is essential.
Salary
200,000 – 300,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
