Job Overview

The Industrial Waste Management Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of waste reduction and recycling programs within Bolloré Logistics Zambia’s operational facilities. Reporting to the Head of Operations & Sustainability, the role involves collaborating with cross‑functional teams to develop waste handling protocols, conduct risk assessments, and ensure that all waste streams—whether hazardous, non‑hazardous, or recyclable—are managed in accordance with Zambian environmental legislation and global standards such as ISO 14001. The engineer will also serve as a key liaison with local authorities, waste treatment vendors, and community stakeholders, fostering transparent communication and promoting sustainable practices. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive waste management plans for warehouses, distribution centers, and transportation hubs.
• Conduct regular waste audits to identify reduction opportunities and ensure accurate reporting.
• Coordinate with procurement to source environmentally friendly packaging and disposal solutions.
• Ensure compliance with the Zambian Environmental Management Act and related regulations.
• Prepare and submit waste management documentation to regulatory bodies and internal auditors.
• Train staff on proper waste segregation, handling, and emergency response procedures.
• Monitor waste treatment vendor performance and negotiate service contracts.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to achieve zero‑landfill targets where feasible.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of waste classification, treatment technologies, and recycling processes.
• Proficiency in environmental management systems (EMS) and ISO 14001 standards.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or ISO 14001 Lead Auditor are advantageous.

Experience

Minimum of five years’ experience in industrial waste management, environmental compliance, or a similar engineering role within the logistics, manufacturing, or mining sectors. Experience working in Zambia or other Sub‑Saharan African markets is highly preferred.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances for transportation and professional development are also part of the compensation package.
