Job Overview

The Satellite Communications Operations Manager will oversee the end‑to‑end management of Zamtel’s satellite assets, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and compliance with regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, installation, and commissioning of satellite ground stations and related infrastructure.
  • Monitor satellite network performance, conduct root‑cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to maintain service quality.
  • Develop and enforce operational procedures, safety protocols, and compliance with Zambian communications regulations.
  • Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee procurement of satellite equipment and services.
  • Prepare and manage the annual budget for satellite operations, ensuring cost‑effective utilization of resources.
  • Collaborate with the Network Planning and Engineering teams to integrate satellite links with terrestrial networks.
  • Provide technical mentorship and training to junior engineers and field technicians.

Required Skills

  • In‑depth knowledge of satellite communication technologies, including VSAT, GEO, MEO, and LEO systems.

  • Strong project management abilities with a track record of delivering complex technical projects on time and within budget.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to make data‑driven decisions.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Satellite Professional (CSP) or Project Management Professional (PMP) are advantageous.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in satellite communications operations, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. Experience working in emerging markets and familiarity with Zambian regulatory frameworks will be considered a strong asset.

Salary
