About the Role

The Seed Manager will act as the technical authority responsible for improving seed performance and ensuring proper varietal placement across Zambia’s different agro-ecological regions. Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct varietal evaluation and yield benchmarking to determine best-performing seed varieties
  • Ensure correct seed varietal placement based on agro-ecological zones and farming conditions
  • Manage a structured pipeline of new hybrid and OPV (Open Pollinated Variety) seed products
  • Analyze agronomic data and produce technical and commercial recommendations for decision-making
  • Establish and supervise demonstration farms and Centres of Excellence nationwide

Seed and Seedling Portfolio Management

  • Develop and maintain a competitive vegetable seed portfolio, including tomatoes, peppers, chilli, cabbage, lettuce, onion, and watermelon seed varieties
  • Oversee product lifecycle management, from launch and scaling to phase-out strategies
  • Align seedling supply with market demand, farmer preferences, and production trends
  • Work closely with suppliers and procurement teams to ensure efficient sourcing and inventory planning

Educational Requirements

To qualify for this role, applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Agriculture, preferably in Agronomy, Crop Science, Horticulture, or Agricultural Sciences
  • Membership with the Agricultural Institute of Zambia (AIZ) will be considered an added advantage
  • Additional certifications in seed technology, greenhouse management, crop production, or sustainable agriculture are beneficial

Experience Requirements
