Job Overview
Arup Zambia seeks a visionary Sustainable Urban Mobility Planner to lead the design and implementation of low-carbon transportation systems in Mongu. This role will integrate public transit, non-motorized pathways, and smart infrastructure to create accessible, equitable, and environmentally responsible urban mobility solutions. The position aligns with Zambia’s National Development Plan and global sustainability goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop urban mobility strategies that prioritize public transport, cycling, and pedestrian infrastructure.
- Conduct feasibility studies for sustainable transport projects, including electric vehicle charging networks and green corridors.
- Collaborate with local governments, NGOs, and communities to align plans with regional development priorities.
- Analyze traffic patterns and environmental data to optimize urban mobility efficiency.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and stakeholder proposals for project approvals.
Required Skills
- Expertise in urban mobility modeling tools (e.g., PTV Visum, AIMSUN).
- Proficiency in GIS software for spatial analysis and mapping.
- Strong understanding of sustainable development frameworks (e.g., UN SDGs, ISO 14001).
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex project timelines.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
- Master’s degree in Sustainable Development or Urban Design preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years in urban planning, transportation engineering, or sustainable development projects.
- Proven experience in designing mobility solutions for African urban contexts.
- Track record of managing end-to-end infrastructure projects from concept to delivery.
Salary
150,000 – 250,000 ZMW annually, commensurate with experience and project impact.
