Job Overview

First Quantum Minerals is seeking a skilled Boilermaker / Metal Fabricator to support workshop operations in Solwezi.

Key Responsibilities

Metal Fabrication & Welding

  • Perform cutting, bending, welding, and fabrication of metal components
  • Use welding techniques including MIG, TIG, and Arc welding processes
  • Manufacture and repair structures such as chutes, hoppers, pipes, brackets, and frames

Workshop Operations & Equipment Handling

  • Operate workshop tools including grinders, cutting torches, hydraulic presses, and guillotines
  • Ensure safe and efficient use of fabrication machinery and tools
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and productive engineering workshop environment

Technical Drawing & Quality Control

  • Read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings
  • Ensure all work meets technical specifications, tolerances, and quality standards
  • Conduct inspections to maintain high-quality fabrication and repair output

Maintenance Support & Reporting

  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to reduce equipment downtime in mining operations
  • Complete job cards, fabrication logs, and material usage reports
  • Plan materials and fabrication tasks to improve workflow efficiency

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Follow strict health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards
  • Ensure compliance with mining safety regulations and workshop procedures
  • Promote a strong culture of workplace safety and risk management

Minimum Requirements

  • Craft or Advanced Certificate in Boilermaking or Metal Fabrication
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in workshop fabrication or welding roles
  • Experience in mining, heavy industry, or industrial engineering environments (preferred)
  • Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and Arc welding techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret technical and engineering drawings
