Job Overview

The Head of Smart Grid Integration will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of advanced grid technologies that enhance reliability, efficiency, and renewable integration across Zambia’s power network. Reporting to the Regional Director of Grid Operations, you will shape the strategic roadmap for smart metering, demand response, distributed energy resources, and data analytics platforms. This role requires a visionary leader who can translate emerging technologies into practical solutions, manage cross‑functional teams, and engage stakeholders from regulators to end‑users. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the smart grid integration strategy aligned with national energy objectives and Schneider Electric’s global roadmap.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams of engineers, data scientists, and project managers to deliver pilot projects and large‑scale deployments.
• Oversee the selection, procurement, and integration of advanced metering infrastructure, communication networks, and control systems.
• Collaborate with Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO), regulatory bodies, and private sector partners to ensure compliance and interoperability.
• Analyze grid performance data to identify optimization opportunities, reduce losses, and improve outage management.
• Drive the adoption of renewable energy sources by integrating solar, wind, and battery storage into the grid management platform.
• Prepare technical reports, business cases, and presentations for senior leadership and external stakeholders.
• Mentor and develop local engineering talent, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.

Required Skills

• Deep expertise in smart grid architectures, IEC 61850, and IoT communication protocols.
• Proficiency in data analytics tools, GIS, and SCADA systems.
• Strong project management capabilities, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk mitigation.
• Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
• Ability to translate technical concepts into clear business value propositions.
• Leadership experience in multicultural, cross‑functional environments.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., PMP, CEM) are highly desirable and demonstrate a commitment to advanced technical and managerial expertise.

Experience

Candidates must have a minimum of eight years of progressive experience in power system engineering, with at least three years in a leadership role focused on smart grid or digital transformation initiatives. Experience working with utility companies, especially within the African context, is strongly preferred.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, pension contributions, and relocation assistance where applicable.
