Job Overview
The Senior Tax Compliance Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring that our diverse client base adheres to the evolving tax regulations within the Zambian jurisdiction and beyond. This position requires a deep understanding of local tax laws, international tax treaties, and corporate compliance standards. You will be responsible for managing complex tax filings, conducting detailed tax audits, and providing strategic advice to clients to optimize their tax positions while maintaining full legal compliance. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the preparation and filing of all statutory tax returns for a diverse portfolio of clients.
- Conduct comprehensive tax risk assessments to identify potential compliance gaps and implement mitigation strategies.
- Provide technical advisory services regarding direct and indirect taxation, including VAT, Income Tax, and WHT.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities and tax officials on behalf of clients to resolve disputes and inquiries.
- Monitor changes in local and international tax legislation to ensure proactive compliance strategies.
- Lead and mentor junior tax associates, fostering a culture of technical excellence and professional growth.
Required Skills
- Advanced proficiency in tax software and advanced Excel modeling.
- In-depth knowledge of the Zambian Income Tax Act and VAT regulations.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex legal and financial documentation.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for client-facing interactions.
- High level of professional integrity and attention to detail.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Finance, Law, or a related quantitative field is mandatory. Professional certification such as ZICA (Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants) or ACCA is highly preferred and will be considered a significant advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Candidates must demonstrate a minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in tax compliance or corporate taxation, preferably within a reputable professional services firm or a large multinational corporation. Proven experience in handling complex tax audits and managing client relationships is essential for success in this role.
