Job Purpose

The Mining Engineer – Load and Haul Scheduling will be responsible for developing, monitoring, and controlling short-term mine schedules while ensuring alignment with the medium-term mine plan. The role includes overseeing load and haul operations, mine design requirements, fleet efficiency, equipment utilization, and mining production planning.

The position serves as the key planning contact for mining production teams, ensuring operational targets are achieved efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities

1. Mine Production Scheduling

  • Develop and execute short-term mine production schedules aligned with medium-term mining plans.
  • Ensure production activities support operational and business objectives.
  • Coordinate load and haul schedules to achieve desired production outcomes.

2. Load & Haul Planning

  • Act as the first point of contact for mine production teams regarding load and haul operations planning.
  • Optimize haulage strategies for improved operational efficiency.
  • Monitor and improve equipment deployment under suitable operating conditions.

3. Equipment Optimization

  • Ensure mining equipment is utilized effectively to maximize productivity.
  • Monitor fleet performance and identify opportunities for operational improvements.
  • Support preventive planning to minimize downtime and operational inefficiencies.

4. Mining Control & Data Management

  • Prepare and issue mining control data for survey and operational teams.
  • Maintain accurate mine planning records and production schedules.
  • Ensure timely communication of planning updates to production personnel.

5. Team Coordination & Technical Support

  • Plan, organize, and follow up on work schedules and deliverables.
  • Escalate operational issues when necessary to ensure continuous workflow.
  • Mentor and upskill Assistant Mining Engineers through knowledge sharing and technical guidance.

6. Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain strong commitment to mining safety standards and health practices.
  • Promote safe operating procedures across mining operations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and operational mining requirements.

7. Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for operational process improvement.
  • Recommend productivity enhancement strategies.
  • Develop and maintain operational procedures where required.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Mining Engineering
  • Valid professional mining engineering credentials
  • EIZ Registration (Engineering Institution of Zambia)
  • ERB Registration (Engineering Registration Board)
  • Valid Driving License

Preferred Qualification

  • Blasting License (advantageous)
