Job Overview

The Network Optimization Engineer will be responsible for enhancing the performance, reliability, and efficiency of MTN Zambia’s radio access network (RAN) and core infrastructure. This role involves analyzing network data, designing optimization strategies, and implementing solutions that improve coverage, capacity, and quality of service. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive network performance analysis using KPI dashboards, drive tests, and monitoring tools.
• Develop and implement optimization plans to improve coverage, capacity, and throughput across Luanshya and surrounding regions.
• Collaborate with the Radio Planning team to design cell parameters, antenna tilts, and power settings.
• Coordinate with vendors for software upgrades, firmware updates, and equipment tuning.
• Monitor and troubleshoot network anomalies, ensuring rapid resolution to minimize service impact.
• Prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior management highlighting optimization outcomes and ROI.
• Stay updated on emerging telecom standards, 5G evolution, and industry best practices.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical abilities with proficiency in network performance tools (e.g., Atoll, TEMS, NetAct).
• In‑depth knowledge of LTE/4G and emerging 5G technologies.
• Experience with RF engineering concepts, antenna design, and propagation modeling.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
• Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficiency in data analysis software such as Excel, Python, or R.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in RF optimization or network planning are advantageous.

Experience

Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in telecom network optimization, preferably within a mobile operator environment. Prior exposure to both urban and rural network challenges in Zambia is highly valued.

Salary

The role offers a competitive salary range of SSP 250,000 to 350,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based incentives and annual bonuses are part of the compensation package.
