Job Overview

We are currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Hydrology Modeler to join our technical team in Mansa. This role is critical to our mission, as it involves using advanced computational models to predict water availability, movement, and quality within complex river basins and groundwater aquifers. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain complex mathematical models to simulate groundwater and surface water interactions.
  • Analyze large datasets from hydrological monitoring stations to predict seasonal water availability.
  • Collaborate with field engineers to validate model outputs with real-world sensor data.
  • Produce detailed technical reports for government stakeholders and international donors.
  • Lead the implementation of new remote sensing technologies for water catchment monitoring.
  • Provide technical oversight for community-led water management programs in rural areas.

Required Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in MODFLOW, SWAT, or similar hydrological modeling software.
  • Expertise in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and spatial data analysis.
  • Strong statistical programming skills using R or Python.
  • Exceptional technical writing and ability to communicate complex data to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of Zambian water laws and environmental regulations.

Education

A minimum of a Master of Science in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, or a closely related field is required. A PhD in a specialized hydrological field is highly preferred for this senior-level position.

Experience

Candidates must demonstrate at least seven years of professional experience in hydrological modeling, preferably within a development or environmental consultancy context. Proven experience working in sub-Saharan Africa or with international NGOs is a significant advantage.
