Job Overview

This role involves conducting environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for infrastructure and development projects across Zambia. The specialist will ensure compliance with national environmental regulations while balancing ecological preservation with socio-economic growth. The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to Zambia’s green development agenda and align with international conservation standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive environmental impact assessments for proposed projects
  • Prepare detailed reports for regulatory submissions and stakeholder presentations
  • Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and local communities
  • Monitor and evaluate the long-term environmental effects of approved projects
  • Develop mitigation strategies to minimize ecological disruption
  • Provide expert advice on sustainable land-use planning

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in EIA methodologies and Zambian environmental legislation
  • Strong analytical skills for data interpretation and risk assessment
  • Excellent report writing and presentation abilities
  • Knowledge of GIS mapping software and environmental monitoring tools
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
  • Fluency in English and basic knowledge of local languages (e.g., Bemba)

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Geography, or related field
  • Postgraduate qualification in Environmental Management preferred
  • Certification in EIA or environmental auditing advantageous

Experience

  • 3-5 years in environmental assessment or conservation projects
  • Experience with Zambian environmental regulatory frameworks
  • Proven track record in managing complex EIA projects

Salary

200,000 – 300,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
