Job Overview

The Grid Operations Analyst will play a pivotal role in monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing the performance of ZESCO’s transmission network in the Eastern Province. Reporting to the Senior Grid Operations Manager, the analyst will use advanced SCADA systems, data analytics tools, and real‑time monitoring platforms to ensure stable and efficient power flow. Key Responsibilities

• Monitor real‑time grid performance using SCADA and EMS tools to detect anomalies and initiate corrective actions.
• Analyze load forecasts, generation schedules, and transmission constraints to optimize power dispatch.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs) such as system frequency, voltage stability, and outage duration.
• Collaborate with field engineers, maintenance crews, and control center staff to coordinate outage management and restoration activities.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis of grid disturbances and recommend preventive measures.
• Support the development and implementation of grid modernization projects, including smart grid and renewable integration initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with national grid codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in emergency response drills and provide technical expertise during major incidents.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in SCADA, Energy Management Systems (EMS), and power system analysis software (e.g., PSS®E, PowerWorld).
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a data‑driven mindset.
• Excellent communication skills for clear reporting and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Knowledge of Zambian grid codes, transmission standards, and regulatory frameworks.
• Ability to work under pressure and make timely decisions during grid emergencies.
• Familiarity with renewable energy integration and smart grid technologies is an advantage.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Energy Management, or a closely related field is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Power Systems Analyst (CPSA) or equivalent are desirable but not mandatory.

Experience

The ideal candidate will have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in grid operations, transmission planning, or power system analysis within a utility or large‑scale energy organization. Experience with SCADA/EMS platforms and exposure to outage management processes are essential.

Salary

ZESCO offers a competitive salary range of SSP 150,000 to 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The compensation package includes performance‑based incentives, health insurance, pension contributions, and other statutory benefits.
