Job Overview

The Network Security Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing security solutions that safeguard Vodacom Zambia’s extensive mobile and fixed‑line network infrastructure. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement network security architectures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and VPN solutions.
  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and risk analyses across the carrier network.
  • Monitor security events using SIEM platforms, investigate alerts, and coordinate incident response activities.
  • Collaborate with network engineers to embed security controls into new infrastructure projects and upgrades.
  • Develop and maintain security policies, standards, and procedures aligned with industry frameworks such as ISO 27001 and NIST.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to cross‑functional teams on security best practices.
  • Stay updated on emerging threats, zero‑day exploits, and evolving regulatory requirements affecting the telecom sector.

Required Skills

  • Deep knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, MPLS, BGP, OSPF) and security mechanisms.
  • Hands‑on experience with firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet), IDS/IPS, and VPN technologies.
  • Proficiency in SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk, QRadar) and incident response workflows.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a proactive security mindset.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or Bash for automation.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Relevant certifications (CISSP, CCNP Security, CEH) are highly desirable.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees or specialized certifications will be considered an advantage.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of professional experience in network security, preferably within a telecommunications environment. Demonstrated experience in designing secure network architectures, managing security operations centers (SOC), and handling large‑scale incident response is essential.

Salary
