Job Overview

The Retail Operations Strategy Manager will lead the development and execution of strategic initiatives that enhance store performance, optimize supply chain efficiency, and drive profitable growth across Pick n Pay’s Ndola cluster. Reporting to the Head of National Operations, this role will collaborate with cross‑functional teams including merchandising, finance, marketing, and IT to align operational tactics with corporate objectives. The successful candidate will leverage market insights, competitive analysis, and advanced analytics to shape the future of retail in Zambia, positioning Pick n Pay as the top choice for consumers and a leader in the retail sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement multi‑store operational strategies that improve sales, margin, and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct comprehensive market and competitor analyses to identify growth opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Lead the rollout of technology solutions such as inventory management systems, POS upgrades, and data analytics platforms.
  • Collaborate with merchandising to align product assortment with local consumer preferences and seasonal trends.
  • Develop KPI dashboards and reporting mechanisms to monitor store performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage a team of regional analysts and store managers, providing coaching, performance feedback, and career development.
  • Coordinate with supply chain partners to ensure optimal stock levels, reduce waste, and improve fill rates.
  • Prepare business cases and financial models to support capital investment decisions.
  • Champion sustainability initiatives, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and community engagement programs.
  • Represent Pick n Pay Zambia at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to enhance brand visibility.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical mindset with proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Excellent strategic planning and project management abilities.
  • Deep understanding of retail operations, supply chain dynamics, and customer experience.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Leadership experience with a track record of building high‑performing teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, results‑oriented environment.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, Supply Chain, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree (MBA or equivalent) is highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in retail operations, preferably within a multi‑store environment. Demonstrated success in leading strategic projects, driving operational excellence, and delivering measurable financial results is essential.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 250,000 to SSP 350,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and incentive schemes are also part of the total compensation package.
