Job Overview

The Network Deployment Engineer will play a pivotal role in planning, designing, and executing the rollout of Airtel’s mobile and broadband infrastructure in the Eastern Province, with a primary focus on Petauke and surrounding districts. This position involves close collaboration with cross‑functional teams, including radio frequency (RF) planning, civil works, procurement, and project management, to ensure timely and cost‑effective deployment of network sites. The engineer will be responsible for site surveys, technical design, equipment installation supervision, and performance testing, guaranteeing that each new site meets Airtel’s quality standards and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed site surveys in Petauke and neighboring areas to assess feasibility, accessibility, and power availability.
  • Develop RF and civil engineering designs, including tower specifications, antenna configurations, and backhaul solutions.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for equipment procurement, delivery, and on‑site installation.
  • Supervise and validate the installation of radio equipment, antennas, cabling, and power systems to ensure compliance with Airtel standards.
  • Perform post‑deployment testing, drive‑tests, and optimization to achieve target coverage and capacity metrics.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including as‑built drawings, configuration files, and deployment reports.
  • Collaborate with the regulatory affairs team to secure necessary permits and ensure adherence to ZICTA guidelines.
  • Provide technical support to the operations team for troubleshooting and network upgrades.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of LTE/4G network architecture, RF planning tools (e.g., Atoll, Planet), and microwave backhaul.
  • Proficiency in civil engineering concepts related to tower construction and site acquisition.
  • Excellent project management abilities, with a track record of delivering projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Effective communication skills for interfacing with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and local authorities.
  • Problem‑solving mindset and ability to work under pressure in remote locations.
  • Familiarity with Zambian telecom regulations and safety standards.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Electronics, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as PMP, RF Engineering, or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) are advantageous but not mandatory.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in telecom network deployment, preferably with exposure to both urban and rural projects. Prior experience with Airtel or other major African mobile operators will be considered a strong plus.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 30,000 to SSP 45,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances for travel and field work are also part of the compensation package.
