Job Overview
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS policies and programs across the Ndola manufacturing site. Reporting to the Regional EHS Director, the role ensures compliance with Zambian regulations, international standards, and BASF’s internal safety framework. The manager will act as a key partner to operations, engineering, and human resources, fostering a culture of safety and environmental responsibility. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor EHS management systems aligned with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
- Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and root‑cause analyses to prevent recurrence.
- Lead internal and external audits, ensuring corrective actions are completed on time.
- Provide training and coaching to employees on safety procedures, emergency response, and environmental best practices.
- Collaborate with production teams to integrate safety considerations into process design and continuous improvement projects.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of Zambian environmental and occupational health legislation.
- Prepare and present EHS performance reports to senior management and external stakeholders.
- Drive sustainability initiatives such as waste reduction, energy efficiency, and water conservation.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations in Zambia and internationally.
- Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and influence at all organizational levels.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making capabilities.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with fluency in English.
- Experience with audit management systems and incident reporting tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS software platforms.
Education
The successful candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline. Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or NEBOSH are highly desirable.
Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in EHS management within a manufacturing environment is required. Prior experience in the chemical or process industry is preferred, along with a demonstrated track record of reducing incidents and improving environmental performance.
Salary
The role offers a competitive salary range of SSP 250,000 to SSP 350,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and benefits are part of the total compensation package.
