Job Overview

The Railway Operations Manager will lead the day‑to‑day management of railway services in the Livingstone corridor, overseeing train scheduling, crew coordination, asset maintenance, and safety compliance. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the manager will develop operational strategies that optimise network capacity, reduce turnaround times, and enhance customer satisfaction. The role involves close collaboration with engineering, commercial, and regulatory teams to ensure seamless integration of new technologies and adherence to national and international railway standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement operational plans that align with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor train movements, ensuring punctuality, safety, and optimal use of rolling stock.
  • Lead a team of supervisors, dispatchers, and crew members, providing coaching, performance reviews, and career development.
  • Coordinate with maintenance departments to schedule preventive and corrective work without disrupting service.
  • Analyse performance metrics, generate reports, and recommend process improvements to senior management.
  • Manage the operational budget, control costs, and negotiate contracts with service providers.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, conduct regular audits, and lead incident investigations.
  • Collaborate with commercial teams to align service offerings with market demand and customer expectations.

Education

Experience

Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in railway operations, with at least three (3) years in a supervisory or managerial role. Experience in a multinational or government‑linked transport environment is an advantage.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
