Job Overview
The Smart City Project Coordinator will lead the planning, execution, and monitoring of Vodafone Zambia’s smart city initiatives in Ndola and surrounding regions. Working closely with cross‑functional teams, municipal authorities, and technology partners, you will ensure that projects such as intelligent traffic management, public Wi‑Fi deployment, IoT sensor networks, and digital citizen services are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role is central to Vodafone’s strategy of leveraging telecommunications infrastructure to enable smarter, safer, and more efficient urban environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets for smart city initiatives.
- Coordinate with municipal planners, utility providers, and technology vendors to align project deliverables with city objectives.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful outcomes.
- Facilitate stakeholder meetings, prepare status reports, and communicate updates to senior management.
- Oversee procurement of IoT devices, sensors, and communication equipment, ensuring compliance with procurement policies.
- Manage pilot deployments, conduct performance evaluations, and scale successful solutions across the city.
- Ensure all projects adhere to regulatory standards, data privacy requirements, and sustainability guidelines.
- Collaborate with Vodafone’s network engineering teams to integrate smart city solutions with existing telecom infrastructure.
Required Skills
- Strong project management expertise with proven ability to deliver complex, multi‑stakeholder initiatives.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills for interfacing with government officials, vendors, and internal teams.
- Solid understanding of IoT, data analytics, and telecommunications technologies.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and collaboration tools.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret technical data and translate it into actionable insights.
- Leadership qualities to motivate cross‑functional teams and drive results.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or relevant certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, or Agile Scrum Master is highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of five years’ experience in project coordination or management, preferably within smart city, ICT infrastructure, or large‑scale public‑private partnership projects. Experience working with municipal authorities and understanding of Zambian regulatory frameworks is an advantage.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary ranging from SSP 120,000 to SSP 180,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based incentives and annual bonuses are also part of the compensation package.
